All modern stairlifts are battery-powered. The mains charges the batteries via charge points at the top and bottom of the rail. This is why your lift still works in a power cut.

## How long do batteries last?

Typically 3–5 years. Heat, leaving the lift off charge for long periods, and very heavy daily use shorten battery life.

## Signs your batteries need replacing

Lift starts beeping repeatedly, runs more slowly, or stops mid-stairs when fully charged. Time for new batteries.

## Cost of replacement

£80–£150 fitted, depending on model. Takes about 20 minutes.

## How to make batteries last

Always park the lift on a charge point (top or bottom of the rail). Don't switch the lift off at the wall.
