# Stairlift Weight Limits Explained

Standard, heavy-duty and bariatric models — what each can carry safely.

3. Stairlift Weight Limits Explained

Key takeaways

- • Standard models: up to 19 stone (120kg)
- • Heavy-duty: up to 25 stone (160kg)
- • Bariatric: up to 35 stone (220kg)
- • Always declare actual user weight on survey

Most stairlifts are rated for users up to 19 stone. Heavy-duty and bariatric models exist for larger users with reinforced seats, stronger motors and wider rails.

## Standard stairlifts

Rated for users up to 19 stone (120kg). Suitable for the vast majority of Salford customers and available new or reconditioned.

## Heavy-duty models

Rated for users up to 25 stone (160kg). Reinforced seat frame, stronger motor and wider footplate.

## Bariatric models

Rated for users up to 35 stone (220kg). Wider seat, stronger rail mounts, extended footplate. New only.

## Why it matters

Using a stairlift above its rated weight voids the warranty and increases motor wear. Always be honest at survey — the price difference is small.
