Frequently asked questions

What gets replaced during reconditioning?

Batteries, brake pads, drive belt, charge points and worn upholstery are replaced as standard. Motors and gearboxes are stripped, tested and replaced if they don't meet spec.

How is the warranty different from a new lift?

We offer a full 12-month parts-and-labour warranty on every reconditioned lift, with annual service plans to extend it. New lifts typically carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty.

Is the rail new?

Yes — the rail is brand new and cut to your staircase. Only the seat and motor unit are reconditioned.

How our reconditioning process works — and why it's the smart choice for most Salford homes

Every reconditioned straight stairlift we sell goes through the same in-house overhaul: the seat unit is stripped down, the motor and gearbox are tested against manufacturer spec, batteries and brake pads are replaced as standard, the charge contacts are renewed, and the upholstery is refurbished or re-covered. Anything that doesn't pass our bench test is replaced, not patched. The rail itself is always brand new, cut on site to the exact length of your staircase — there's no such thing as a "used rail" in our installs.

The result: roughly half the price of an equivalent new lift, the same 12-month parts-and-labour warranty, and the same one-morning install. For a typical Salford straight staircase, reconditioned is the choice we recommend to most customers — see the full case in our reconditioned vs new guide, and the realistic cost breakdown for Salford.

You still qualify for zero-rated VAT on a reconditioned lift if you're chronically sick or disabled, and Salford City Council's Disabled Facilities Grant can fund the install in full where you meet the means test — read our Salford grants guide for the OT and DFG process. We also include free removal and ethical recycling of your old lift.
